US officials deported British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos to the United Kingdom on Friday, a day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The Department of Homeland Security said Yiannopoulos entered the US legally in May 2019 but overstayed, and an immigration judge ordered his removal on July 22 after he missed a hearing. The 41-year-old former Breitbart editor and one-time aide to rapper Ye has been a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. Rival commentator Laura Loomer claimed credit for the arrest. Yiannopoulos has not commented since returning to Britain.

Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in Taiwan's MediaTek so that cloud providers and AI labs can design custom AI chips that still plug into Nvidia-based data centers. MediaTek will adopt Nvidia's NVLink Fusion platform, extending a partnership that already produced the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip inside the DGX Spark. The deal comes as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic build their own chips to lean less on Nvidia GPUs. MediaTek expects its custom data-center chip business to earn about $2 billion this year. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang called MediaTek "one of the world's great semiconductor companies."

Hubble Space Telescope images have revealed a growing 10-sided wave around Saturn's south pole, a younger counterpart to the planet's famous north-pole hexagon. The decagon developed between 2023 and 2025 and is still evolving, according to a study published this week in the journal Science Advances. Unlike the northern hexagon, which has stayed stable for more than 40 years, the decagon's corners shift on a roughly 32-day cycle, suggesting a meandering atmospheric wave rather than a rigid structure. Researchers led by the University of the Basque Country used computer simulations to show the pattern may be driven by a large rotating vortex. The discovery offers a rare live example of how giant planetary storms form and evolve.

Tiger Woods pleaded no contest to reckless driving charges in a Florida court on Sept. 2 and will lose his driver's license for five years, closing a case that began with his March rollover crash on Jupiter Island. Prosecutors reduced the original DUI charge to willful and wanton reckless driving, and a judge also imposed about $1,500 in fines. Judge Darren Steele warned that Woods would go straight to jail if he drives at all. The 50-year-old golfer attended the hearing with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump. The suspensions on the two charges run at the same time and do not stop him from competing in tournaments.

KRAS inhibitors, a class of drugs already used against some cancers, shrank NF1 nerve tumors in mice at least as well as approved MEK inhibitors, according to a Cincinnati Children's Hospital study published Sept. 2 in the journal Science Advances. Neurofibromatosis type 1 affects about one in 3,000 people, and roughly half develop plexiform neurofibromas, painful nerve tumors that can turn malignant. The research, led by cancer biologist Nancy Ratner, showed that when Schwann cells lose the NF1 gene, the KRAS protein drives tumor formation, making it a clear drug target. Because KRAS inhibitors are already far along in cancer development, the path to testing them in NF1 patients may be shorter.

A study published in the journal Science found that China's solar power boom has reduced bird diversity: across 2,344 counties studied from 2014 to 2023, stronger pro-solar policies were tied to a 2.1 percent drop in a bird diversity index. Solar farms cleared cropland and grassland that birds rely on for food and nesting, with the worst losses in wealthier, non-desert regions. Resident and migratory birds both declined, while mountain species were largely unaffected. The authors call the trade-off a "green dilemma" and urge strict biodiversity safeguards and careful siting, on desert, degraded land or rooftops, as China keeps expanding its solar fleet.
