TSMC weighs a second US campus in Dallas as chip investment passes $2 trillion

Another American site on the table

TSMC is reported to be considering a second US campus, this time in Dallas. UDN and Reuters reported the plan, citing unnamed sources. The company has already pledged $265 billion for American manufacturing, and Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs says it has approved $44 billion of TSMC investment in the United States so far.

The first Arizona fab began high-volume production in 2024. Three more are under construction, and the company has signalled plans for more than nine facilities in the state, including research, development and packaging space.

An investment boom across the country

The move fits a wider surge. An industry tracker puts announced US private-sector manufacturing commitments at $2.09 trillion as of early October. Semiconductor and advanced technology projects lead the list: Apple at $600 billion, TSMC at $265 billion, Micron at $260 billion and IBM at $150 billion.

Demand from artificial intelligence data centres is the main driver. Advanced packaging capacity is tight, and Nvidia has secured much of TSMC's most advanced packaging output. Building fabs closer to customers also lowers political risk and shortens supply chains.

Vacuum equipment sits behind every wafer

Each new fab needs vacuum systems, gas handling and rotary motion inside sealed chambers. Machines that grow single silicon crystals, deposit thin films and etch circuits run under ultra-high vacuum. A single leak can stop a production line that costs millions of dollars a day to operate.

Suppliers of vacuum feedthroughs, pumps, valves and seals expect strong order books as these projects move from announcement to construction. Analysts say the real test is whether the equipment supply chain can scale as quickly as the buildings go up, and whether enough trained technicians can be hired to run them.

Reliable Ferrofluid Vacuum Rotary Feedthrough for Semiconductor Manufacturing

In semiconductor manufacturing, maintaining ultra-high vacuum integrity during rotary motion is critical — from single silicon crystal growth and CVD to sputtering and plasma etching. Ferrofluid Vacuum Rotary Shaft Feedthrough from FerrofluidTec delivers hermetically sealed rotary feedthroughs with leakage rates as low as 10⁻¹² Pa·m³·s⁻¹, vacuum degree up to 10⁻⁶ Pa, and customizable shaft diameters from 10mm to 100mm. Built with non-magnetic stainless steel housings and magnetic permeability stainless steel shafts, these feedthroughs provide reliable, maintenance-free sealing for demanding vacuum environments.
