Trump Administration Unites 20-Plus Allies in 6G Alliance to Counter China’s Telecom Dominance

The Trump administration announced a major diplomatic initiative on Monday, bringing together more than 20 allied nations to jointly develop secure 6G wireless networks in a direct bid to counter China’s growing influence over next-generation telecommunications. The partnership creates a framework for coordinating 6G strategies, sharing technical expertise, and supporting future commercial deployment. Countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan have signed onto the initiative. The move follows President Trump’s December 2025 National Security Presidential Memorandum declaring that 6G “will be foundational to the national security, foreign policy, and economic prosperity of the United States.” Qualcomm has projected pre-commercial 6G devices as early as 2028, with commercial deployments beginning in 2029. The standard is envisioned as an AI-native wireless platform. The administration has directed NTIA to identify 500 megahertz of federal spectrum. “This is about ensuring the next generation of wireless infrastructure is built on democratic values, not authoritarian control,” a senior administration official said.
