Personalized health companion arrives
OpenAI on July 23 launched Health in ChatGPT for all US users, enabling the AI chatbot to connect with electronic health records and wellness applications. The feature transforms ChatGPT from a general Q&A tool into a personalized health assistant. Users can sync Apple Health for activity and sleep tracking, MyFitnessPal for nutrition data, Peloton for workouts, and AllTrails for hikes. Medical records connect through a partnership with b.well, a health data integration platform.
GPT-5.6 Sol powers health reasoning
The new feature runs on GPT-5.6 Sol, which OpenAI says is its "strongest model yet for health." The model demonstrates improved performance on tasks requiring reasoning across complex medical details, clear communication, and careful judgment. It can explain visit notes in plain language, track how lab results change over time, weigh factors across treatment options a doctor discussed, and prepare questions for follow-up appointments.
Privacy and safety measures
OpenAI emphasized that health chats remain isolated from normal conversations, with dedicated privacy protections. The company also added parental alerts and human review for sensitive AI conversations involving teens who may be at risk of self-harm. The launch positions OpenAI to compete directly in the consumer health technology space against established players like WebMD and Doximity.
