A research team at the University of Science and Technology of China has established a new milestone in quantum computing. The scientists created a system with 512 entangled quantum bits, surpassing previous records for quantum coherence and control.

The breakthrough was announced in the journal Nature Physics. Lead researcher Professor Wang Jianwei described the achievement as "a significant step toward practical quantum computing." The system maintained quantum entanglement for several minutes, far longer than previous experiments.

Quantum computing promises to solve complex problems that challenge conventional computers. Potential applications include drug discovery, materials science, and cryptography. The Chinese team's work addresses one of the key challenges in quantum technology: maintaining stable quantum states in larger systems.
