Brewers carry 2-0 World Series lead into Game 3 at Tropicana Field

The Milwaukee Brewers lead the World Series 2-0 after a 5-4 comeback win over the Tampa Bay Rays, and the series shifts to Tropicana Field for Game 3 on Monday at 8 pm ET.

Milwaukee won the opener 3-2 on Friday. On Saturday the Rays scored four times in the first inning against rookie Logan Henderson, then watched the lead disappear.

A four-run hole, filled again

Sal Frelick tied the game with his first home run in three months, and Cooper Pratt hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning, a day after he threw away the first ball put in play. Garrett Mitchell drove in a run earlier in the rally as Milwaukee chipped away against Rays starter Drew Rasmussen.

It was the Brewers' seventh comeback win of the postseason and the second time they had erased a 4-0 deficit. They also did it against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, finishing a four-game sweep.

Tampa Bay, a team built on forcing opponents into mistakes, committed one error, made two other plays that could have been scored as errors and had a runner thrown out at the plate.

The Game 3 pitching matchup

Left-hander Robert Gasser starts for Milwaukee against Freddy Peralta, the former Brewers ace who now pitches for Tampa Bay. Gasser has made two starts this postseason. Peralta pitched in Milwaukee before the trade that sent him to the Rays, and he started Game 2 of the Rays' previous series.

Both managers have leaned on their bullpens. Aaron Ashby closed out Game 2 for Milwaukee, and the Rays have not solved the Brewers' relief corps across two games.

How the teams got here

Milwaukee finished the regular season 103-59, the best record in the majors, and swept the Dodgers in the NLCS. The Brewers are in the World Series for the first time since 1982.

Tampa Bay went 98-64, the best record in the American League, won the AL pennant by forcing opponents into mistakes, and beat Cleveland in the AL Championship Series.

Game 4 is Tuesday at Tropicana Field. Games 6 and 7, if needed, would be played back in Milwaukee.
