AI model deemed too dangerous now available

Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 to the public on Tuesday, a version of its Claude Mythos AI model that the company had previously described as too powerful for public release. The model sparked serious concerns among technology, finance, and government leaders when it was privately previewed in April. Anthropic acknowledged that releasing a model this capable comes with risks, but said safeguards and user limitations are in place.

10,000 security flaws found by testers

The roughly 150 groups given early access to Mythos have reported finding more than 10,000 critical security flaws in their systems. Anthropic said both Fable and Mythos can work unattended on human commands for longer periods than any previous Claude models. The company plans to expand access to the full Mythos 5 through a broader trusted access program soon.

Anthropic nears $1 trillion valuation, IPO expected

Anthropic is expected to become a public company soon, with its private valuation approaching $1 trillion. Co-founder Jack Clark recently told BBC Newsnight that AI capabilities are expanding so rapidly that there should be a way for the public to slow the technology's advancement. Right now, he said, the AI industry has a gas pedal but no brake pedal.
